The horizontal axis illustrates time, whereas the vertical axis illustrates left ventricular (LV) function. The blue line shows the effect of 1 dose (Rx) of cells: LV function improves after Rx, followed by a plateau. The red line illustrates the effect of 3 doses of cells (1st Rx, 2nd Rx, and 3rd Rx) given at regular intervals: the 3 doses have a cumulative effect, such that the total improvement in LV function is much greater than after 1 dose. The bright shaded area is the difference in LV function between repeated and single cell administration. See related article, page 635.
